Denise is Managing Partner and leads the Family Law team.
Denise has a wealth of experience in advising on all on all aspects of separation, divorce and financial provision, often in cases with complex issues and substantial assets, including business and inherited assets. She is also a member of the Law Society Accredited Family Law Panel specialising in helping parents and relatives, in relation to disputes about arrangements for children. Denise’s analytical but personal and straightforward approach has enabled her to develop strong, trusting and enduring relationships with clients as well as colleagues, barristers and associates alike.
Family breakdown is one of the most difficult and stressful lifetime events. Denise’s ethos is to make sure her clients feel they are listened to and are given time to fully express their worries about their situation whilst also making sure that they are given the information and tools to enable them to make informed decisions about the best options for their future and to help them move forward in a sensitive and, as far as possible, non-adversarial way.
Much of Denise’s caseload involves advising clients and negotiating on their behalf in relation to family finances, including those of cohabiting couples and civil partners as well as married couples to not only help with arrangements after they have parted, but also before they marry or live together.
Denise is a member of Resolution which is an organisation promoting a conciliatory solution to family breakdown and her aim is therefore to achieve this if possible and to avoid the cost in both the financial and emotional sense, of litigation and court proceedings.
Sometimes however, court proceedings cannot be avoided and Denise has many years’ experience in helping clients through the court process, often conducting advocacy herself on her client’s behalf but also ensuring that other professionals become involved if necessary, and in collaboration with her clients.
Denise is trained as a collaborative lawyer and family mediator and is able to assist separating clients and couples alike by encouraging discussion and dialogue in a non-confrontational and cost-effective way to reach the best possible outcome for them and their children.
Denise is from Suffolk and studied law in Nottingham. Denise is married with three children and outside of work, she enjoys amateur baking and binge-watching on Netflix. She is a Parish Councillor and also sits on the Local Family Justice Board.
